Assistant Audiology Practitioner, Apprenticeship Band 3 Annex 21,
We are looking to recruit an Assistant Audiology Practitioner as an apprentice, to join us at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust based at Withington Community Hospital and working at Wythenshawe hospital.
The apprenticeship.
L2 Assistant Audiology Practitioner.
You will attend the B-Tec level 2 in Healthcare Science, which is a 16- month programme, provided by CRS and is mainly online.
You will also have on site practical training in the role.
There is a permanent position subject to completion of the apprenticeship.
To apply for this role, you must meet the following apprenticeship eligibility criteria:
· Have GCSEs in English and Maths to take the B-Tec Health Care Science L2.
· Want to pursue a career in audiology.
· Be committed to completing the apprenticeship
· Not have attended any previous apprenticeship in Audiology.
The Trust is committed to supporting you with your personal development, and further training and development programmes are encouraged. One of these is the Assistant Audiology Certificate Course with the Northwest School of Audiology.
There are opportunities for further development once you have completed the apprenticeship and as you progress in the role.
The post-holders will work closely with students, associate, audiologists and more senior staff to ensure that a consistently high-quality clinical service is provided. You will be based mainly at Withington Community Hospital with some work occasionally at Wythenshawe Hospital and we also carry out home visits to housebound patients.
The department offers complex and routine adult and paediatric audiology assessment and rehabilitation workincluding wax removal, vestibular assessment and rehabilitation, tinnitus therapy, hearing therapy, ABRs, pre and school age assessment and you may assist the Audiologists in some of these clinics beside the main duties of the role.
In addition, the department has close educational and research links to Manchester University, and you will be involved in the training and mentoring of students as we are a dedicated teaching department.
This is a varied role,and you will be working towardssupporting adults with hearing aids, carrying out hearing aid servicing and maintenance, some hearing rehabilitation and advice, taking ear impressions, postal repairs and batteries working closely with the 2 other Assistant Audiology Practitioners, the Associate Audiology Practitioner and supporting the senior team assisting in routine and complex clinics.

During your apprenticeship, you will be supervised and line managed by the Associate Audiologist and Audiologists whilst working towards the following duties of the Assistant Audiology Practitioner role:
This role is to support adult hearing aid users and people with hearing loss who may not wear hearing aids by:
carrying our hearing aid servicing, repairs and maintenance.
Providing rehabilitation advice to people with hearing loss and hearing aid users.
Taking ear impressions for hearing aid users and those who require ear defenders and swim moulds.
Giving advice and carrying out follow up for patients using the telephone or video.
Giving advice and demonstration of assistive listening devices.
Carrying out administration duties that include, postal batteries and repairs, printing and sending out written information for patients, or sending electronic information.
Carrying out stage A check on audiology equipment on a daily basis.
Maintaining stock supplies in the repair and clinic rooms on a daily basis.
Basic assessment of hearing using an audiometer (and tympanometer)
Assisting clinicians in assessment clinics, including paediatrics, adults with additional needs, occasionally in balance clinics.
Assist on domiciliary visits to patients homes and on the hospital wards at Wythenshawe hospital.
