To work with carers/families as appropriate. To play an integral part in the evaluation, development and integration of evidence based practice [including relevant technology] within the PT department and wider service. To contribute to the overall direction and development of the PT department and interdisciplinary team/service. Main duties: With support from the specialist physiotherapists to exercise professional responsibility for specialist ABI PT assessment, treatment and discharge of clients. To provide PT assessments of clients based upon the appropriate use, analysis and interpretation of data from a variety of sources, including valid outcome measures. To formulate and implement plans with the client and their family or carer for evidence based treatment and/or management, including goal setting and discharge planning. To ensure a high quality of treatment is delivered with the support of the specialist PTs in the team, using ABI experiential and theoretical knowledge, clinical reasoning and reflective practice. To set goals and write reports in line with service policy/practice in a timely manner and in language appropriate to the recipient and maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping. To ensure that family and carers are involved with the rehabilitation process and to provide education and training as required in order to maximise the clients level of function and independence in both home and community environments. To ensure that a high standard of communication with clients, families, carers and outside agencies is maintained. To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on physical aspects of risk assessment and risk management. To ensure that physiotherapy reports for internal or external use are written in a timely manner that reflects specialist knowledge and skill, and to maintain the highest standard of clinical record keeping. To undertake visits to clients homes/local communities when clinically necessary To manage physiotherapy resources and ensure appropriate and safe use of equipment, and appropriate stock control. To participate in the evaluation and selection of new technology, equipment and resources for physiotherapy and Shaftesbury Icanho To act as key worker as required in relation to individual clients To participate actively in the interdisciplinary and multi-agency meetings concerning the delivery and development of the clinical service for clients, and to provide specialist consultation, supervision and advice to other disciplines. To take responsibility for the supervision of rehabilitation assistants, and PT students, with support from colleagues. To develop and take part in educational sessions for carers, families and other agencies as required, and participate in internal education, case reviews and peer support To be responsible for, and be able to, evidence own personal and continuous professional development by undertaking relevant training, attending meetings and conferences relevant to your Personal Development Plan agreed with the Head of Department and in line with the strategic development for the service. To take part in practice development, evaluation and audit activities to promote evidence based practice. To maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant development and research in the field of acquired brain injury rehabilitation locally, nationally and internationally. To assist in the development of an ethos and practice of service wide publication and research within PT and the wider service. To demonstrate reflective practice and critical appraisal skills in relation to practice in the specialist clinical role and wider team/service. To receive regular clinical professional supervision which complies with Shaftesbury Policy and Procedures and Professional Guidelines. To adhere to all clinical governance policy and procedures. To exercise responsibility and professional judgement for the appropriate and safe use of specialist PT equipment. To participate in, and deliver presentations both internally and externally to clients/carers and external organisations. To adhere to professional PT standards and professional conduct.
