Ofsted Report February 2025
We are committed to making a difference where it matters most to create meaningful futures for all.
We invest in developing talent through our strong focus on coaching and training.
We nurture teams: fostering a sense of belonging secured by strong purpose and healthy relationships.
As we are a talent first organisation, we are always looking to find people who align themselves to our mission and values. If you feel that could be you then we would love to hear from you.
Part of the wider New Bridge Multi Academy Trust (MAT), New Bridge School is a generic special needs school for pupils and students between the ages of 11 and 19 across three sites within Oldham. The school is popular with families both in Oldham and the surrounding boroughs and our numbers are increasing year on year.
The school is an Outstanding rated provision which caters for 369 pupils with a wide range of SEND, from moderate learning difficulties to profound and multiple learning difficulties, including severe and complex learning difficulties: physical disabilities, multisensory impairments, visual impairments, hearing impairments and autism spectrum conditions. All pupils have an EHC plan.
We are excited about being able to expand our teaching roles and create new vacancies to meet the needs of our new pupils. Due to a colleague being promoted into another position in the school, the Trustees are looking to appoint an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our dynamic, growing and committed staff team in the following area:
Class Teacher Pathway 3
We are looking for a teacher to deliver lessons to our Pathway 3 learners. This pathway is designed for students who require a static and nurturing approach to their education. The main focus of learning is to develop functional communication and emotional regulation skills which will enable these pupils to achieve their full potential. The curriculum echoes that of the main school and students enjoy all subjects and have full access to all the school’s facilities. The primary need of the pupils in this cohort are related to speech, language, and communication difficulties. The focus of the Curriculum is to develop these skills to a functional level to enable them to participate as fully as possible in their day to day life and community. These pupils are working towards a destination of playing a part in their community and are likely to require lifelong support to do so. The class teachers in these settings focus largely on EHCP outcomes and deliver the majority of subjects to pupils. Enrichment subjects like PE, Music and Art are delivered by a specialist teacher. We are looking for a form tutor for a class in this provision. This role is ideally suited to Primary practitioners from either a mainstream or special needs background.
With TLR for Living Skills
Alongside your tutor role we are looking for an ambitious and driven leader who will ensure that our Living Skills Curriculum enables all our pupils to meet aspirational destinations.
The intent of the Living Skills Curriculum at New Bridge is to ensure that our young people develop functional skills for living so each of them is able to lead a fulfilling and independent. An essential aspect of the Curriculum is that it reflects the needs of all our pupils and prepares them to participate as fully as possible in the hugely complex modern world and to take part in the wider community as a valued member. Our aim is that the Curriculum supports pupils to develop their independence with an aspirational approach to achievement that will equip them with lifelong skills for their future. The Curriculum provides opportunities for young people to develop their understanding of their own unique development and encourages them to be proactive rather than passive participants, through practical tasks and planned opportunities for risk taking, independent learning and problem solving.
Our intent is also to develop a strong working partnership with families to ensure that the teaching of life skills is holistic and that families can provide opportunities to practice and extend the skills taught within school. Underpinning the curriculum is the promotion of positive self-esteem and confidence, leading to respect for self and others.
Living Skills is a core subject which is taught across all Provisions, you would need to work with colleagues to develop this subject in IB, AB and the Comms departments as well as in the main body.
If you share our determination and ambition to ensure that this provision is a beacon of outstanding practice this role offers an exciting opportunity to develop in a forward thinking and outward looking organisation.
Your continued development will also be a priority, and you will receive excellent support and advice from a talented team of colleagues who will invest in your professional learning.
Previous experience of teaching SEN pupils is advantageous, but not essential to apply for this role. We can support the successful candidate to develop the specialist knowledge required to teach our pupils. We are an organisation who are committed to the professional development and well-being of our staff. We aim to support staff to achieve their own meaningful futures alongside our pupils and have established successful progression routes for them.
This post would suit a primary specialist as the cognitive levels of our pupils in the main body are similar to those of a Primary setting. We would also welcome secondary practitioners with an interest in widening their teaching repertoire in an SEN setting.
We would also be interested in applicants with experience of supporting children or young people with Autism or Special Educational Needs within the primary or secondary sector. This is also an exciting opportunity for a teacher with mainstream experience who can demonstrate a genuine interest in supporting SEND pupils and is looking to work for an organisation which provides opportunities for professional development and progression.
The successful candidate will:
The post will be based initially at New Bridge School in Hollinwood, however, all staff are employed by the MAT and are expected to work at any site within the New Bridge Group.
We are fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff and volunteers to share the same commitment.
This post will be subject to a number of pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of right to work in the UK in accordance with the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996. It will be exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. DBS Code of Practice which can be viewedhere.
For successful candidates, an online search will be carried out as part of our due-diligence in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023.
We strive to create a fair and inclusive workplace that is as diverse as the communities we serve. We positively welcome applications from all candidates regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy, and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
